Political stability | Lets take the first step...

Political stability | Lets take the first step...

by: Hadeed Sher

Military dictators of Pakistan
Pakistan is a country that has suffered a long time dictatorship in the form of military rulers. This has infected the whole political culture and more or less every party has dictatorial practices when it comes to criticism. Be it Javed Hashmi of PTI or Lateef Khosa of PMLN, Faisal Raza Abadi of PPP or the Naheed Khan based small faction of PPP. Every party supporters love their main leadership, that marks a big question about our democratic standings. When people are asked about their democracy they mean to have their star sitting on the premier chair. This behavior is indeed an infected democratic practice. Lets take three examples of three different parties

Case I : Pakistan Peoples Party

PPP is a leftist party and has its vote bank on the name of Roti, Kapra aur Makan besides the ALIVE BHUTTOISM. After the Raymond Davis episode the party member Shah Mehmood Qureshi left PPP and joined PTI. He was slammed by the Federal information minister Firdos Ashiq Awan publicly for ditching the PPP. PPP followers too followed their leadership in this regard and used humiliated remarks against him on social media sites like facebook and twitter.

Case II : Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf

This party is famous for using bawdy language for its opponents. The cult is so powerful that even before someone announce to leave the party or hibernate for a while they make filthy trends not only about that person but about the siblings and close relatives, that are mostly females.  Examples are Fozia Qasoori and Shireen Mazari. Shireen Mazari daughter even wrote a blog on how PTI clan abused her just because her mother was not happy with how PTI chairman ditched her in Rajanpur public gathering. They like to worship their leader, not the party. That is why they use hashtagg like #ForMePTIisIK whenever someone try to leave or raise his/her voice inside the party, classic worshipers huh. The latest of this example is the departure of seasoned anti establishment politician Javed Hashmi. Javed Hashmi tried to raise his voice inside the party meetings regarding the unconstitutional and law breaking AZADI march but his voice was not rejected on the consent of the chief dictator of the party aka chairman PTI. He resigned from the party as well as from the NA and contested in the bye elections but was defeated. The point to mention is the jingoistic behavior of PTI on his statements. Extremist slogans like "Baghi ko marna sawab ka kam hay" (To kill the rebel is a good deed) were displayed publicly on the occasion of Multan public gathering. The supporters behavior was disgusting, abusive and was a non sense.

Case III : Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz

PMLN  supporters are mostly calm as seen when JH left the party back in December 2011. Not even a single point of abuse was witnessed on the social media supporters. However, the party know how to sideline those who speaks publicly about the improvements. Examples are Sir Injam Khan from KPK, Khosas from Punjab and Ghoas Ali Shah in Sindh.

Looking at these three cases following things comes in mind.
  1. Why political parties in Pakistan are based on personalities.
  2. Which political party has dedicated authority of party heads over the administrative heads like ministers.
  3. Why the politics based on like and dislike is prevailing?

You see point is simple, Imran Khan wants to end the dynastic politics but elected unopposed for the next 5 years after ruling party for 16 years. Asad Qaisar the head PTI KPK has relatives in assemblies, so is true for the Pervaiz Khattak, the dancing guy. But isn't this true that Jaffar Iqbal has 6 members of family as parliamentarians in the capacity of MNA or MPA ? Isn't this true that those bashing khosa on his televised interview, close their eyes when it comes to the appointment of Ch. Sarwar as governor Punjab. People do simple calculation based on 1+1 = 2. They say Khosa has failed to grab more than 1 seat from DG Khan, therefore we don't need them. Lets discard them on the basis of their poor electoral performance. I want the same stance on people like Nihal Hashmi, Saleem Zia and Iqbal Zafar Jaghra, because they too are not able to get one pity seat from their home constituencies. However, the political realities are not about winning candidates but about those who have fought for democracy. Our political parties have no mechanism of promoting the worker to the level of ministers, that is why Saad Rafiq was so right in saying that
In Pakistan you can not be among the leadership unless you provide hefty amounts for workers and party. You will be considered loyal worker but certainly not a leader.

In democratic countries, party head position is considered more stronger than the premier post. That is why Sonia Gandhi nominated Manmohan Singh as PM. BJP president Rajnath Singh nominated Narender Modi as the PM and later took oath in his cabinet as minister of Home affairs (Rajnath resigned as party head after oath). It happens when you have democratic structures working properly where an ordinary worker can dream of reaching the premier seat without being afraid of being sidelined by the party head. However, in Pakistan people go for the party positions while party is in opposition, but love to grab the ministerial positions when party forms a government. Therefore, my request is to raise your voice for the reforms in the party structure without pin pointing the shady areas of anyone who criticize the party. I mean whats wrong if someone from the party comes on the TV because for the past 2 years party has not called its general meeting of workers. Because, the party structure in Punjab is controlled by a full time chief minister who has no time to look into the party affairs. The party supporters should consider positive criticism to rectify the issues. The age of mudslinging and character assassination has gone long time, PTI is a living example of this particular mindset. If you don't allow people to speak their hearts at the right platform they will certainly look for the alternatives. The political parties in Pakistan should give us a mechanism where the party stays strong, independent of the personalities. When it will happen that will be the first step towards the political stability in Pakistan.

PNA movement 1977 and GE'13 "rigging" | Thinking outside the bun

PNA movement 1977 & GE'13 "rigging" |  Thinking outside the bun

Written by Engr. Hadeed Sher

Ever since the general elections 2013 there is an ongoing mantra of rigging by some fellow countrymen who are following the due course of Pakistani politics where one either loses or the elections are rigged. These people, equipped with the social media tools, are frenzied over the loss of their favorite candidate. However, since for most of them this has been there first ever democratic experience therefore they deny the existence of basic right of democracy. The holiest of the holy "Every citizen has equal status". Thus the person living in slums has a value of vote that is equal to the vote of a person living in President house. The election rigging has now turned into a carol where a single party is trying to sample the election in 1000 constituencies of Pakistan through 4 selected constituencies of their own choice. This party calls itself Pakistan ehreek Insaaf (PTI), formally known as Tehreek Insaaf Pakistan (TIP), TIP however, is a well known term among the bellboys and bellhops, which is perhaps the reason of conversion from TIP to PTI. Anyhow, what lies within the rigging carol is interesting and most of those who have a soft corner for TIP or PTI believe that a movement similar to the PNA movement 1977, is perhaps the only solution to teach PMLN a "lesson". I am assure that most of them know about the PNA movement as shallow as the lead singer of rigging CAROL knows by himself. The purpose of this blog post is to find out what exactly was Pakistan National Alliance (PNA) movement 1977 and what precisely TIP or PTI claims, but first have a recap of the GE2013.

It was long believed by the media analysts prior to the GE'13 that PTI will form the next government of KPK. However, contrary to the tall claims and reflection of what we call Hollow lentil makes more noisePakistan Tehreek Insaaf after the GE'13 emerged as a regional party with some around 3 dozen seats that too mostly from strongholds in Pakhtoon dominated areas only, thus lacking the basis of a national party. More than two third of Pakistan rejected the politics of abuse and mud slinging. In KPK where there is all fine and clear, because Khattak lead PTI is on the driving seat, there are several districts & divisions where they fail to grab a single seat. For example in KPK PTI fails to get the confidence of people of Charsadda, Mansehra, Buttgram, Kohistan DI Khan, Bannu, Laki Marwat, Bunair, Shangla, Chitral, Dir and Malakand. The drama of "Taank Na Janay Waziristan terha" "ٹانک نہ جانے وزیرستان ٹیڑھا " for gaining the sympathies of victims of  US drone attacks was also badly flopped. PTI was not given a pity TIP from FATA people as a token of the modern fashion show in TANK.  Imran Khan lead PTI failed to grab any seat from Kurram, Momand, Bajor, North Waziristan and Orakzai Agency. But since the government is there with Pervaiz Khattak as CM and 3/4 (60 out of 80) of the ruling collation members are enjoying perks as provincial ministers and parliamentary secretaries, every thing is as legitimate and clear as Imran Khan is in the eyes of Haroon Rashid. However, despite  two mammoth gatherings in Lahore, PTI did manged to get a couple of Punjab Assembly and National assembly seats, and here comes the twist. Since, TIP has some huge public gatherings in Lahore therefore, it is a MUST thing to happen that at least 10 /13 seats of NA should fall in the lap of PTI. However, it did not happened and Imran Khan who once declared that he will contest the GE'13 against Mian Nawaz Sharif in NA-120, cowardly decided to stay out of Gawalmandi, thus leaving behind the female contestant Dr. Yasmeen to fight twice elected PM Nawaz Sharif. Similarly, his fellow party member who conducted the rigged party election of PTI, lost his seat against Khawaja Saad Rafiq in NA-125. Remember, it was Hamid Khan who was supposed to file a case against Khawaja Asif, and he FILED but in the lower court, which was rejected by the court stating that the court can not hear a case worth billion rupees. Anyhow, cutting the story short, as an evidence the one and only Dr. Shireen Mehrunnisa Mazari produced a video of rigging in NA-125 in front of whole media. That video however, was an act of lunacy. Hamid Mir showed that video in his program in which SINDH RANGERS were shown inside the poling booth. Nothing was clear, however the mother of all question is "WHAT EXACTLY SINDH RANGERS IS DOING IN NA-125 LAHORE ??" and the father of all question is "How shameful Dr.SHIREEN MAZARI might felt after this blatant lie of rigging in LAHORE?". Try finding the answers and i am shifting to the PNA story in the coming lines.

  1. Pakistan National Alliance (PNA) was an alliance of several parties who participated in GE'77. They alleged ZAB lead PPP for rigging in GE and decided not to be a part of Oath taking ceremony, PTI however took oath after GE'13.
  2. PNA members decided to launch a country wide protest against the rigging and it was so intense that it brought PPP on the dialog table, PTI also did that near ONE potato Two Potato for a week or two.
  3. As a result of PNA movement the PPP government agreed that re-elections are possible on 40 constituencies (Ref:"Aur line Kat gae" by Kosar Niazi). PMLN however being the winning party has denied any involvement in alleged rigging.
  4. While PNA was agitating against the rigging the country was under the control of PPP, the chief election commissioner was an appointee of ZAB and so as the interim setup in all the four provinces. Neither happened in GE'13. In Punjab a wave of transfer orders actually shuffled the whole setup of Shahbaz Sharif.
  5. PNA movement in 1977 was on road because the opposition parties were clear about rigging and they decided not to be a part of democratic setup. In 2013, PTI however is enjoying full protocol in KPK, they have opposition leader in PA and their MNAs are getting full TA and DA for each session.
  6. In 1977, PNA movement decided to boycott election polling in the daylight without the presence of strong media. In 2013 PTI took part in polling process till the end of the day and waited another 3 hours to compile the results, and then RIGGING word was first introduced to the nation.

My advice, history resists any alteration of facts. Try not to seduce the youth with such events that never existed in the pages of history. Try to focus on the province where you have the majority. The movement of PNA in 1977 was a significant parade of valor, where the people sacrificed for our today. That movement saw historical democratic struggle in Pakistan, neither on bullish Twitter nor on misleading Facebook. PNA was on ground not for hours, but for days and months, while in 2013 PTI in on twitter or near a burger shop. Lets decide to think outside the BUN.
