What handicapped PTI in Cantonment Board elections ?

Aristophanes once wrote, roughly translated; "Youth ages, immaturity is outgrown, ignorance can be educated, and drunkenness sobered, but STUPID lasts forever". So what caused the dent in cantonment elections to PTI, to which most of us were considering their bastion. For me there are several reasons behind their fall in their so called "strongholds" and being a pro-taliban party is the biggest of all. Lets outline them and discuss them but before that have a look on the composition of cantonment board elections.

Composition of CB elections.

The election was held after a gap of 17 years, wonder why the founder of nazim system did not conducted CB elections during his 8 years of dictatorship. The election was held in the following cantonments of Pakistan.

Hyderabad, Jehlum, Karachi(Faisal Cant, Maora Cant, Clifton Cant, Karachi Cant,Malir Cant, Korangi Cant),Lahore (Cant CB and Walton CB), Multan, Muree, Panu Aqil, Peshawar,  Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Quetta,
More than 1150 candidates filed their papers for a total of 199 seats in CB elections. Following parties granted tickets to their party workers
  • Pakistan Muslim League (N)
  • Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians (PPP)
  • Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI)
  • Mutehada Qaumi Movement (MQM)
  • Jamat e Islami (JI)
  • Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT)
  • Jamiat e ulemaai Islam (JUI)
  • Pakistan Muslim League Quaid e Azam (PMLQ)
According to the results PMLN got the maximum seats followed by the independent candidates. PTI stood third while MQM grabbed the fourth position. So coming back to the topic lets chalk out the possible faults of PTI that resulted in its defeat in CB elections.

  1. The dharna and language of IK affected the voters.
  2. The dispelling performance in KPK is the reason.
  3. PTIs love for taliban is the reason.

1: The aftermath of DHARNA

Most of the people i interact with twitter believe that the bawdy licentious language and the jingoistic behavior during the so called AZADI MARCH and its 4 months long shooting is the actual connection behind the defeat of PTI in CB elections. They presuppose that dharna had a negative impact because the people dislike the approach he adopted. However, in my point of view this is not the dominant factor. My reasoning is based on the fact that we as a nation are political TAMASHBEEN. We love to see the politicians abusing each other publicly, mudslinging is perhaps the best thing to watch. Our people are so much found of gossips and loose talk, its just feast for their ears and potlatch for their eyes to see Imran Khan ranting continuously for 4 months, mimicking the seasoned Baloch leaders, attaining the bulls eye in below the belt hitting and that too on daily a fresh target. Someday telling people that the PM will be having wet shalwars, next day threatening Shahid Afridi, the day after that he was intimidating the IGP ISB and so on. Secondly, the majority of the PTI supporters are revolutionary kittens who are always free to abuse, decry and vilify anyone who shows discomfort with the politics of Imran Khan and this is the problem in democracy, that majority is the authority. So what i want to say is that bawdy talk of Imran Khan during the so called Azadi march has nothing to do with their defeat. Such things, in national politics in general and for PTI in particular, only helps them getting new lot of frustrated abusers. Therefore, this reason comes at #3.

2. The dispelling performance of PTI in KPK

This is another reason that can be considered, however i ranked it #2 because, there is always a margin of performance in the electoral result. No tangible project is currently under implementation stage in KPK. Other than the so called non political police force they are emerging, which btw has nothing to do with on ground practice, they have no performance in any sector. Health, education, public service, transportation, road infrastructure, energy generation, mining, tourism, law and order and so on. You name it and a failure of PTI is there. Not one project , i repeat not a dime of work has been implemented. The fraud of education emergency which was shifted to Reham khan's Tameer e School program was discussed in an earlier blog, however as i have written that stupidity remains forever, the construction of 350 dams announced last year and the fresh bullshit is the plantation of 1 Billion trees in a province that has an area of 74521 sq Km. Conclusion: PTI has nothing to showcase when it come to their performance in KPK.

3. PTIs love for Taliban

In 2013, the jail break o DI Khan was instrumented. PTI chairman Imran Khan, instantly typed a tweet, putting all responsibility on the ANP lead previous government. However, he never bothered to answer why the inquiry report of DIKhan Jail break was held in the office of CM KPK or more than 8 month. He also never told this nation that how many of those who fled from the jail are arrested again. He never helped the federal law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order. His views about the IDPs was a total  nonsense, about them he said " They are not our responsibility". He insisted about meeting the CoAS regarding the army operation in FATA, which has nothing to do with the KPK government, and while it was a classified meeting, he told media about the possible success rate of the war against Taliban. He and his ministers were so vocal about their crush on Taliban that while he demanded to have Taliban's office in Peshawar, his ministers offered them ministries of religious affairs. And i think that this is the reason, that haunted the residents of cantonment the most. His love for Taliban is evident from the fact that his party tried to deceive the public by spreading false information. Having, said that we can assume that not all but majority of the people living in cantonment board dislikes the pro Taliban attitude and that's the reason behind the downfall of PTI.

Political stability | Lets take the first step...

Political stability | Lets take the first step...

by: Hadeed Sher

Military dictators of Pakistan
Pakistan is a country that has suffered a long time dictatorship in the form of military rulers. This has infected the whole political culture and more or less every party has dictatorial practices when it comes to criticism. Be it Javed Hashmi of PTI or Lateef Khosa of PMLN, Faisal Raza Abadi of PPP or the Naheed Khan based small faction of PPP. Every party supporters love their main leadership, that marks a big question about our democratic standings. When people are asked about their democracy they mean to have their star sitting on the premier chair. This behavior is indeed an infected democratic practice. Lets take three examples of three different parties

Case I : Pakistan Peoples Party

PPP is a leftist party and has its vote bank on the name of Roti, Kapra aur Makan besides the ALIVE BHUTTOISM. After the Raymond Davis episode the party member Shah Mehmood Qureshi left PPP and joined PTI. He was slammed by the Federal information minister Firdos Ashiq Awan publicly for ditching the PPP. PPP followers too followed their leadership in this regard and used humiliated remarks against him on social media sites like facebook and twitter.

Case II : Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf

This party is famous for using bawdy language for its opponents. The cult is so powerful that even before someone announce to leave the party or hibernate for a while they make filthy trends not only about that person but about the siblings and close relatives, that are mostly females.  Examples are Fozia Qasoori and Shireen Mazari. Shireen Mazari daughter even wrote a blog on how PTI clan abused her just because her mother was not happy with how PTI chairman ditched her in Rajanpur public gathering. They like to worship their leader, not the party. That is why they use hashtagg like #ForMePTIisIK whenever someone try to leave or raise his/her voice inside the party, classic worshipers huh. The latest of this example is the departure of seasoned anti establishment politician Javed Hashmi. Javed Hashmi tried to raise his voice inside the party meetings regarding the unconstitutional and law breaking AZADI march but his voice was not rejected on the consent of the chief dictator of the party aka chairman PTI. He resigned from the party as well as from the NA and contested in the bye elections but was defeated. The point to mention is the jingoistic behavior of PTI on his statements. Extremist slogans like "Baghi ko marna sawab ka kam hay" (To kill the rebel is a good deed) were displayed publicly on the occasion of Multan public gathering. The supporters behavior was disgusting, abusive and was a non sense.

Case III : Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz

PMLN  supporters are mostly calm as seen when JH left the party back in December 2011. Not even a single point of abuse was witnessed on the social media supporters. However, the party know how to sideline those who speaks publicly about the improvements. Examples are Sir Injam Khan from KPK, Khosas from Punjab and Ghoas Ali Shah in Sindh.

Looking at these three cases following things comes in mind.
  1. Why political parties in Pakistan are based on personalities.
  2. Which political party has dedicated authority of party heads over the administrative heads like ministers.
  3. Why the politics based on like and dislike is prevailing?

You see point is simple, Imran Khan wants to end the dynastic politics but elected unopposed for the next 5 years after ruling party for 16 years. Asad Qaisar the head PTI KPK has relatives in assemblies, so is true for the Pervaiz Khattak, the dancing guy. But isn't this true that Jaffar Iqbal has 6 members of family as parliamentarians in the capacity of MNA or MPA ? Isn't this true that those bashing khosa on his televised interview, close their eyes when it comes to the appointment of Ch. Sarwar as governor Punjab. People do simple calculation based on 1+1 = 2. They say Khosa has failed to grab more than 1 seat from DG Khan, therefore we don't need them. Lets discard them on the basis of their poor electoral performance. I want the same stance on people like Nihal Hashmi, Saleem Zia and Iqbal Zafar Jaghra, because they too are not able to get one pity seat from their home constituencies. However, the political realities are not about winning candidates but about those who have fought for democracy. Our political parties have no mechanism of promoting the worker to the level of ministers, that is why Saad Rafiq was so right in saying that
In Pakistan you can not be among the leadership unless you provide hefty amounts for workers and party. You will be considered loyal worker but certainly not a leader.

In democratic countries, party head position is considered more stronger than the premier post. That is why Sonia Gandhi nominated Manmohan Singh as PM. BJP president Rajnath Singh nominated Narender Modi as the PM and later took oath in his cabinet as minister of Home affairs (Rajnath resigned as party head after oath). It happens when you have democratic structures working properly where an ordinary worker can dream of reaching the premier seat without being afraid of being sidelined by the party head. However, in Pakistan people go for the party positions while party is in opposition, but love to grab the ministerial positions when party forms a government. Therefore, my request is to raise your voice for the reforms in the party structure without pin pointing the shady areas of anyone who criticize the party. I mean whats wrong if someone from the party comes on the TV because for the past 2 years party has not called its general meeting of workers. Because, the party structure in Punjab is controlled by a full time chief minister who has no time to look into the party affairs. The party supporters should consider positive criticism to rectify the issues. The age of mudslinging and character assassination has gone long time, PTI is a living example of this particular mindset. If you don't allow people to speak their hearts at the right platform they will certainly look for the alternatives. The political parties in Pakistan should give us a mechanism where the party stays strong, independent of the personalities. When it will happen that will be the first step towards the political stability in Pakistan.

The unanswered questions !!

Saulat Mirza's confessional statement has buzzed the Pakistani media and nowadays every other talk show is discussing about the allegations of  a convicted person. Interviewing the wife of Saulat mirza the assasin, live on this issue and calling the son of the slain MD KESC live from NY are the hot cakes in market. The anchor asks question about involvement of MQM in target killings to boost the rating of the talk show. However the real question, that who is the actual force ceasing the execution of Saulat mirza time and again ? Who is responsible of taking a video recorder inside a death cell to record the confessional statement hours before he was supposed to be executed? The silence of media on this issue tells the sanity and objectivity of media.

The enigma of Pakistani politics is always a fuzzy subject and while it is understood that most of the media personalities are on the pay roll of WAQAR, the question is who is stopping who to accomplish different tasks ? Like for instance, consider the resignation drama, officially played between PTI and PMLN. Like what force on earth halted the speaker NA to accept the resignations of the rouge PTI ? Who approached him to accept the resignation of Javed Hashmi after he busted the conspiracy balloon of long march? How sanity prevailed after the Mummy retruns to the NA ? Talking about politics when PMLN failed to elevate Hasil Buzinjo as a strong candidate for the seat of chairman senate, then came the principle of democracy " He who has the majority should be given a fair chance". And hence, Raza rabbani nomination was supported and was widely hailed on social media as a step forward for democracy.

http://www.dailywaqt.com/04-10-2015/images/517.gif
Lets try to relate the above two issues. The issue of saluat mirza and the cowardish attitude of speaker NA on the issues of resignation are two current prime examples of how they think about us. The media and the politicians are successful in making people fool, time and again by overdosing them about the non issues. Instead of grilling government about how a confessional statement was recorded inside a deeathcell hours before an assasin's execution, every other day they are fanning dust in the wind by calling the son of slain MD KESC and the wife of the assassin. The politicians on the other side are deceiving people in the name of democracy. I mean in which democracy people have no right to elect a new representative after he/she resigns ? What justification PMLN has for over 20 constituencies who had no representation for the past 7 months ? Is it like PMLN was not confidant about winning those seats or it was a planned mukmuka between PTI and PMLN. Speaker NA Sardar Ayyaz Sadiq's duty was to protect the parliament in which he failed. The legal cases filled on Imran Khan and Tahir ul Qadri are seen no where in the legal system so that they can be prosecuted for the grieve act of attack on parliament. Speaker NA was bound to act according to the rules of business that states that even if some member has not rendered his resignation, if he/she is absent from the proceedings of the NA for a specific time, speaker NA should process to vacate that seat. The seat of speaker NA is a neutral seat and if someone is obeying party policy while occupying this seat, he deserves to take all the credit of wrongdoings and alas the BAKRI speaker failed in protecting parliament and ensuring the representation of over 20 constituencies of Pakistan. Contrary to this the SHERDIL president of PMLN acted on the issue of Wajih uz Zaman (MPA KPK) and aptly thrown him out of the PA of KPK.
